Springtime in Washington

The unusually warm weather in March brought out the famous Washington, DC cherry blossoms much earlier than normal.  I had hoped when I was visiting this week to be able to photograph them.  Not to be deterred, I found lots of springtime color like these flowering dogwoods in front of the US Supreme Court.

Tulips are the flower of choice currently around the capital including the White House.

A cool, windy morning in front of the US Capitol building kept the tulips closed as they were being blown about. Taken during the first golden hour of sunrise.

I like that first shot a lot. Something about the softness of the flowers against the starkness of the Supreme Court building is very striking.

The first shot is lovely, but not a dogwood. Possibly a variety of cherry.

Love that last one the most. The colors are beautiful!
Something about that first photo has me puzzled, though I can’t put my finger on it. It’s as though the flowering tree was added later in post….maybe it’s because both the foreground and background are as equally sharp which confuses my eye? It’s a beautiful image, despite my wonderings. 🙂

They are all beautiful, my favorite is the middle image. I love the fresh colors and dark/orange cloud in the background. It must be the evening hour.

  6. I have heard many times of the beauty of Washington, in the Spring especially. Your fabulous pictures depict it so well ! I particularly like the second one with this dark sky over the colourful garden.

I thought the White House was especially well done. I’m pretty sure the tree framing the Supreme Court is one of the Japanese flowering cherries. I would not swear to it. Not dogwood, though. It is a beautiful city.
