View 186: Summer Weekend

Summer weekends are precious when they are preceded by a long winter and wet spring.  You want to fill them with fun, family and warmth.

I started out my weekend by taking in a Cam-Am Box Lacrosse playoff game between the Rochester Greywolves and the Onondaga Red Hawks at the Onondaga Nation Arena.  It was a great game which was tied after the first two periods.  The Greywolves took control scoring 4 goals in the first 5 minutes of the third period to post a 12-8 victory in the first game of a best of three playoff series.

Saturday I toured the annual Syracuse Nationals car show with over 7,000 hot rods, muscle and classic cars at the New York State Fairgrounds.  It was a very hot and crowded day so I went light with my Nikon D700 and 28-300VR lens.  Every color of the rainbow was present in the show cars.  A good place for me to build up photos for Karma’s latest Photo Hunt. 😉

Sunday found me back on the shore of Lake Ontario with a family picnic at New York’s Fair Haven State Park.  My Brother-in-Law brought up his power boat and younger family members took turns water skiing and tubing.  I enjoyed watching them from the boat and photographing  their many mishaps and spills. This is another form of recreation you see on the waters of Lake Ontario.

Did you have a good summer weekend?

I love your action shots Scott.
You have caught everything in the image with the girl in the tube. She’s just waiting for another splash in the waves.

    Thanks for the plug!
I’m “on board” with the tubing shot too! It’s wicked cool. I’ve gone tubing before and you’ve captured the feeling perfectly.
I did have a good summer weekend! I was down at Cape Cod. My latest post has some of story about the weekend – more will be coming this week.

    • You’re welcome and I bet you can guess what my photo hunt will have lots of. 😉

Oh, you and your sister are making me jealous this week. I can just imagine all the great seafood you enjoyed and the amazing sights you saw.

    Beautiful photos Scott!
I *did* have a great weekend. Last summer was so jam packed with “fun” that it was more stressful than fun. This summer is very laid back…not being flexible to make plans in advance has meant free weekends to do things that we want to do on the fly and as the opportunities present themselves. And the weather has been amazing here. Spending a lot of time at home enjoying the simple life—ice cream, iced coffees, swimming in the ugly blue pool, fires in the backyard. Quiet time…family time…reading time…lazy time. Counting down the days to more of the same, only in a location that has an endless supply of chocolate macaroons. 😉

I had a dream last night that I forgot my camera at home and I cried like a baby…maybe a little piece of me is reawakening? 🙂

    • Yes, too much fun can be stressful. Running from one place to the other wears one down. Having said that, my next three weeks are going to be busy and stressful if I let them be. Am going to try my hardest to enjoy, learn and have fun while photographing three events which will amount to thousands of photos that need to be edited, processed and placed online in a short amount of time. Piece of cake!

Sounds like a wonderful summer weekend, Scott. That girl on the tube shot is cool! I had a quiet weekend, as Barry was at Isle Royale. Except for that time at the Aura Jamboree. Oh, and that trip to the waterfalls last Wednesday. Otherwise, quiet and HOT, thank you for asking.

I had a lovely and relaxing weekend, which was the end of 2 lovely and relaxing weeks along the Westcoast of Jutland. I’m glad I just played with my camera and wasn’t being pulled by a power boat like that girl. Perfect shot, Scott! Did you try too? 😉

Can’t wrap my brain around that a nice ‘Summer’ weekend began with a HOCKEY game!

That last image is priceless! Nice air! 🙂

We had a lovely weekend as well…hot weather, perfect temperature water, good friends, good food and drink. Hope to do it all again THIS weekend! 🙂

    • Tracy, that is not a hockey game. That is an indoor box lacrosse game which is played in hockey rinks in the summer after the ice is taken out. 🙂

The girl is my wife’s cousin and she had a blast. A bit sore the next day from the bouncing and wipeouts.

All right, party at Tracy’s this weekend!

Ha! Lacrosse – right! I ‘see’ the net now (and also, read the lacrosse part). Thing is, I read this post quickly yesterday but didn’t have time to comment then, so when I came back today to comment, I guess I had a brain lapse! 🙂

Always a party at our house!!

  9. I love your actions shots ! This orange car “smiling” at us looks like a real old Renault. Any idea what make it is ? This is a show I would have enjoyed too. Your weekend was a very busy one with various activities. How fun ! Mine was a lazy one in the shade of our garden (I have started a fascinating book). Saturday evening meal with friends was very enjoyable too.

    • Isa, that car could be anything when they started. Those hot rods are totally custom from the ground up. I will feature more photos from the show later this week.

Everyone is lazing about this summer. I will have to find time for that!
