As you may have noticed, the URL for this blog has changed. The old one will continue to work so bookmarks do not need to be changed. However, if you link to this blog, I would appreciate you updating the link to http://viewsinfinitum.com. Thank you!

Thanks, Scott! I could not get to your blog last night. I think Time Warner was having some DNS issues as other blogs would not come up either. I need to catch up with your Everest journal.

A new post is going up at 6:30 EST tonight. Day 4 was a better picture taking day then Day 3 was so you can expect better photos with this post. Btw, I’m not sure how you are reading my Everest posts but there are two ways. You can read just the Journal Excerpts which are fun. They come photos. Or, you can read the entire chapters which come with all the photos that the posts have but a few extras, too. Days 4 and 5 I think will be interesting because they reveal some more conflicts that need resolving. Looking forward seeing you drop by.

So glad your post is about a change of Blog location, and not a prostate cancer test. 😉

I wondered when you were going to do this.

The blog is still hosted by WordPress.com but wanted to extend the identity of the blog. This does give me the option of moving it later on, too.

Congrats, Scott! I’ve been thinking about doing the same with my blog.
I’ll get that link changed now.

I’m curious as to how it works. Does it change how you do things? Or just the domain name?

Only the domain name and any links to the old URL gets forwarded to the new URL. Signing into your WordPress.com account, creating posts, uploading images, checking statistics, etc. remain the same.

I didn’t notice, but I updated the link in my blog roll.

I’ve seen this mentioned in my dashboard to change to domain name. What benefits does this have, do you feel, as a blog owner?

For me, it’s a better way for people to associate the name of my blog with the URL. When I signed up on WordPress.com, I did not think about it, I just did it and used a short URL name. Later, when I came up with the name of Views Infinitum, I left it. However, if people searched for that name they got stphoto.wordpress.com. A bit confusing and shows I am using a service for the blog.

Congratulations with your own domain, the link is now updated at my blog. I guess you will tell something about the benefits of your upgrade?

Congratulations.
I find the wordpress.com concept very good as it gives many people possibility to blog without having to bother about aquring and running a domain for themselves. But for myself I prefer having a tiny feeling that I manage my own data. (At least I believe it is so)
Your blog is still hosted by WordPress.com. How is that possible with your own domain name?

You do manage your blog’s content and data via WordPress.com and you can not beat the price.
WordPress.com allows (for a $12 (US) fee annually) any domain name you own to be mapped to your wordpress.com blog. Here’s the link for more information: http://en.support.wordpress.com/domain-mapping/
Of course, there is another fee to purchase your domain name. You can do that through WordPress.com or use another service. I used GoDaddy.com as I already had an account through them as I do the same thing for my Smugmug.com account.
