Mulan’s smile spread joy to all who came in contact with her during a Meet and Greet in Epcot’s China pavilion in World Showcase during my recent trip to Walt Disney World. I stood a little behind and to one side of the Disney PhotoPass photographer so she would be looking in my direction and I would not be a bother to my fellow guests.
I kneeled down as she was visiting with a person in a wheelchair. Remember, your photos will look better if you are looking at your subject and not down or up. I really like how her eyes are NOT looking at the camera. Makes you wonder what she is looking at, doesn’t it?
I wonder how sore her cheek muscles are at the end of the day ? 😉

Might be very sore at that.

Hmmmm, not sure about this one, Scott. I do agree that Mulan’s smile is fantastic but for me, not enough to hold my attention in the photo. The eyes are the most important item and they aren’t engaging the camera (they actually look a little frozen which is understandable because this poor girl must be tired of posing!) plus, the person in the background is distracting (shallower DOF might have helped??) Sorry…this probably sounds harsh but I tells it likes I sees it. 😉

Nah, that is your opinion. I do agree the depth of field should have been shallower or I should learn how remove large objects from backgrounds. Need better tools for that! Still, I do like her expression and the atypical eye position. But that’s just me. 😀

I love this photo. The portrait is great because she did not pose for you and you caught what you saw. The color is simply amazing. Great photo.

Ha! This is what is great about photos….they are subjective (like all art). Having experience as a professional portrait photographer, I ‘see’ things in photos that others may not pick up on. My crits are never meant to demean or hurt, but simply to offer suggestions for improvement (something we all need no matter how experienced!) 🙂

I think she’s stunning and it’s the smile that gets it done for me. I love the contrast between her teeth and lips; great shot.
