Almost 1,200 people ran in the 43rd Annual Baldwinsville Kiwanis Turkey Trot 5K Run in Baldwinsville, New York on Thanksgiving this year. The photo above was taken a few seconds after the start of the 5K event. Eventual winner, Chris Stogsdill, is on the far left. He completed the course in 15 minutes and 52 seconds. Somewhere in the river of runners is my daughter running her first competitive event.

Many of the runners got into the spirit of Thanksgiving wearing roasted turkey hats. Santa Claus raised his arms in triumph as he crossed the finish line. He must be getting ready for his all-nighter in December. My daughter, after her run, sporting a pink Aaron Rodgers jersey. She must have given him good luck as Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers defeated the Detroit Lions later that day.

Not at all. Telephoto lenses come in handy for sporting events.

I love reading your blog and looking at the pictures. It reminds me of home. I grew up near Saratoga and I went to college in Oswego, NY. I have been to lots of the places you photograph. You always make it look just like I remember (or better 🙂 )

Thank you! I went to Oswego for two years before transferring to SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry in Syracuse. As you have seen, I often visit Oswego to enjoy the lake, sunsets and, of course, Rudys!

Things I will never understand: (1) Competitive running (as opposed to running after the Duo or away from irritable bears) (2) Running for any purpose in this weather in those skimpy little shorts! Brrrr! (3) My pathetic, Charlie Brown-like hopes for the Detroit Lions. There are more, of course, but that will do for now or I will become morose. Nice shots, Scott–and very pretty subject indeed.

!. Agree, never got into running. I need a sport with a goal…like hockey goals or touchdowns.
2. Actually, it was unseasonably warm with temps in the mid-50’s. Probably one of the reasons for the large turnout.
3. Detroit is their own worst enemies. They need to grow up and that includes their coach. Packers are on a roll!

I never felt I was in danger. Later, at the finish line, I had to be more careful as it got a bit crowded and I kept bumping into people with my camera.

How awesome for your daughter!! I imagine she is also helping you in your own fitness goals??
I hope to give running a try next spring. Hubby has been running since April and I was supposed to join him but my left foot had other plans. I hope by spring it will be fully healed and I will be ready for this next challenge!

I know I Love your picture of the light house. We used to walk out there and visit with the spray coming off the lake! I already follow A Half Hour a Day thanks to your post about the best of the year. 🙂 Thanks for all your great posts it makes me miss home less 🙂 I ❤ Syracuse also.
