Assignment 16: Best Photos of 2011

As in the last two years, the last assignment for this year is about what you have already photographed.  Assignment 16 gives you the opportunity to share your Best Photos of 2011.  I am looking for a minimum of three (3) photos.  You may share as many as you wish.

What do I mean by Best?  It can be a photo you are particularly proud of.  Maybe it was a new technique you learned, a favorite vacation photo, a unique photo of something/someone or a photo which has a special meaning for you.  I only ask for the photos to have been taken in the last twelve (12) months or from November 1, 2010 to October 31, 2011. For example, the photo below is my favorite sports photo I took this year.  It has all the elements I look for in a sports photo: the object of the sport which is the baseball, action of the ball player throwing the ball in mid-air and the player’s look of concentration.

A baseball infielder throws the runner out at first base during the CNY Thunder Classic baseball tournament in Rome, New York.

As in the other assignments, do not send me your photos. What I would like you to do is post them on your blog, flickr, Google+ or other photo sharing site, personal website or any other place on the Internet where you can place a link to it here by making a comment to this blog entry. Then we can visit those sites and enjoy everyone’s Best Photos of 2011.

Please, have your photos posted on or before Midnight (your time), Wednesday, November 16, 2011. Don’t have a place to post? Might be a good time to start up a blog or join a photo community like flickr.  As I have done for all the Assignments, I’ll put together a recap with my comments.

If you have any questions, leave me a comment and I will be happy to answer them. By the way, I would really appreciate it if you would help spread the word about this assignment so we can get lots of people to participate. Blog it, tweet it, Google+ it, email it and talk about it to your fellow photographers, bloggers, friends and family. Thank you!

Oh wow Scott. I’m off to browse through 3,000 images. Don’t have an SLR so I’ll never get something as clear and marvellous as your baseball action shot !

Perhaps I can find some photos before deadline. It is not as easy as it seems because I’ll often find another favourite while browsing through all the photos. We shall see.

    • I hereby give anyone who is affected by the Nor’easter last week permission to post their assignments whenever they can. Hope you get it soon, Karma! The US needs to really think about updating our infrastructure for power and transportation.

Good action shot, Scott! It makes you feel like you’re right there and we better duck or we’re gonna get hit! (Good idea about the photo assignment. Not sure if I’ll play, but I’m tempted.)

  9. I understand why you like this particular picture, Scott, it has got everything one could wish for while watching a tournament. It is really fantastic. I will try and go through my photos of this past year for your new assignment. That’s a good idea… and quite a lot of work ! Your Four Seasons assignment is still on, is it ?

    • As I noted above, I hope it is fun work and gives you and others an idea how they’ve done photographically over the last year.

Yes, the Four Seasons assignment is still on (see link on the right). I’ll be posting mine soon. The deadline is December 28th of 2011.

The more I think about this challenge – the harder it becomes! Not exactly the usual effect ….. Now we must see how it looks next week! Just a little question (which might make it a little easier!): Is it OK to use the photos I earlier this year have already published on my blog?!

This little exercise of yours really made me think. I know I’m good at capturing a human moment. What I’m working on is getting a variety of picture types, like abstractions and nature photographs. I was pleased to see that my goals were actually reflected in my work. I feel like I never take enough pictures, but then I saw all the ones I had taken and I realized I was more productive than I had suspected. I can’t wait to see what everybody else has done this year. it’s always so motivating and stimulating when we share our photographs with each other. Thanks for hosting this idea!
