An endangered Red Wolf looks out at me from his enclosure at the Rosamond Gifford Zoo in Syracuse, New York. Rosamond Gifford Zoo is part of the Red Wolf Recovery Project to insure a viable population in hopes to introduce more wolves back into the wild.

What a beautiful Red Wolf—love the eyes. Nice capture of this cautious animal.

The eyes make the portrait whether for humans or animals. The eyes should be in sharp focus.

They are a bit skidish and you can see it in his eyes.

Red Wolves roamed the south eastern US which is where the Europeans first settled. It’s a wonder the species has survived though there’s more of them in captivity than in the wild.

The Red Wolf area is below a wooden walkway so must of my photos of them are unflattering. I waited for a long time before this one looked up at me.

I wish I had a zoo nearby. Sure would help with the identification problem.

Ottawa doesn’t have a zoo? Toronto has a large one but isn’t the best for photography. Though I envey all the wildlife opportunities that come right up to your door. 🙂
