Took advantage of a sunny and warm mid-March morning to walkabout my hometown of Baldwinsville, New York. It’s been a long snowy winter so to get such weather this time of year is a blessing. One, I couldn’t pass up photographing. Still too early for growing things but a good time to see what’s been doing since last fall.

The New York State Canal Corporation has been working on Lock 24 during the off season.
The New York State Canal Corporation has drained Lock 24 to do some maintenance and upgrades for the upcoming boating season. Never seen the lock empty before. Most interesting.
Next, I walked uptown, marveling at the beautiful blue sky. Wanted to capture it but, to do so, I’d need something…

A renovated red brick building sets off the brilliant blue sky of late winter.
I kept heading up towards my old high school. Reminiscing as I walked past the building and through the sports fields which made up a large part of my youth. As I came upon the fleet of school buses, I spied a very important safety device…

A safety mirror gives a wide angle view of the fleet of parked busses.
It was good to get out, breath the fresh air and stretch my legs. It was good to get reacquainted with my town through my viewfinder.
Nice walkabout! You have a lot to photograph in your town.

The revitalization of the canal and river area which runs through the middle of town over the last decade has really brought back a sense of community to the town which was missing during the 80’s and 90’s.

How interesting! Not many towns have a lock. It must be interesting to watch or even better, go through in a boat. As always your images are crisp, clear, and full of vibrant color. I like your use of the curved mirror on the school bus. It presents almost a fish-eye image.

Thanks, MJ. For more about Baldwinsville, click it in the Blog Tag for it. Not sure if you’ve seen some of photos with water in it. 🙂
