So, while many of my upstate New Yorkers are in the middle of snow and extreme wind chills, I have been spending time in Florida. While the weather has not been seasonal weather wise, each day has been sunny and 50 degrees warmer than back home.

Yesterday, I spent the day touring the St. Marks National Wildlife Refuge on the northern Gulf coast of Florida. I saw alligators warming in the Sun, ospreys hunting over water pools, pelicans gliding over Gulf waters and northern visitors keeping out of the cold.

As the Sun moved closer to the horizon, I photographed the St Marks Lighthouse and got the itch, the itch to share it with you all here.

50 degrees warmer than here would still be under 50 degrees right now, but I would take it! Lighthouses remind me of summer – thanks for the reminder that we won’t be buried in snow forever, that it only feels that way!

    • I see…make that 75 degrees warmer as Syracuse broke a record with -14 degree F last night. Going to be in the upper 60’s today here. Coming home tomorrow night and an thankful I went with a parking service which will warm up my car for the ride home!

The light on the edge of the tower is amazing … I just can’t stop looking at it.

Pretty impressive picture!! Glad you two were able to get out of town….you picked a really good time to leave this rotten Syracuse weather behind. Be thankful you aren’t coming home today…frigid, frigid, FRIGID!

Scott, your image is a portrait of a watchful, patient caretaker. You’ve certainly captured the spirit of the lighthouse.
