Time

“Half our life is spent trying to find something to do with the time we have rushed through life trying to save.”

— Will Rogers

Photographer’s Note: I read today that Photo Blogs should have BIG images so I have changed the layout to allow for bigger sized versions and updated all past views and postings.

However, this layout moves what I call More Stuff from the top of the page navigation bar to a box on the sidebar (those things going down the right hand side of this page). Please, take a few minutes to check out those pages and visit my growing list of Favorite Blogs.

Cheers!

View 16: Stanley Cup Playoffs

The Drive to 25

Those who know me, know that this time of year is not just Spring but time for the NHL’s Stanley Cup playoffs. I’ve followed my team, the Montreal Canadiens, since I was introduced to hockey back in 1968. Watching Hockey Night in Canada(HNIC) in the living room of my parent’s friends house I was immediately enthralled by the speed and skill of the game.

After missing the playoffs last year, the Canadiens are back in going for their 25th Stanley Cup in their 99 year history. Yes, this time of year, it’s all about the Cup, the Stanley Cup.

HNIC boasts what I believe is THE best theme music of any sport on television.  It’s so good, it’s been featured on every HNIC broadcast since 1968.  Hear for yourself at about the 44 second mark after a long intro.  Sorry, CBC really should consider going back to the original.

UPDATE: Since I wrote this CBC lost the right to The Hockey Theme to TSN.  Here is their take… (as of 2014-2015 season Rogers Sportsnet now does HNIC broadcasts)

View 15: Snowdrops

Snowdrop wildflowers

Snowdrops (Galanthus nivalis) are the first flowers to bloom each spring around the house.  The green and white flower brings welcome color to the drab browns and pre-growth grass of the surrounding lawns and forests.

Is Spring weather here to stay?  I hope so as I put the snowblower away for the season and cleaned up the yard all weekend long.

View 14: Tulips

Tulips in Black Tulips in White

After reading how to photograph flowers in Scott Kelby’s The Digital Photography Book (pages 30, 31), I decided to try my hand with some tulips which my daughter had delivered earlier this week. Around here, it’s going to be another month before any tulips will be blooming outside.

While I didn’t have any black fabric handy, I instead made use of my house coat. Had trouble getting it flat so there’s still some light there. I bought a white poster board for the white background picture. I used a nearby window for the main light source and a white reflector to fill in the shadows. I used Apple’s Aperture 2 to process the final images.
