About

Welcome to my personal journal through my viewfinder. A place where I leave the world behind and try to find the spirit of what I am seeing.

The goal here is to share photographs. One for each week. While the photographs presented may not be taken in the week given, they will represent my unique view of the goings on in upstate New York or wherever I may be at the time.

I hope you enjoy the pictures and, if you have any questions or comments, I invite you to leave them. I will answer any questions and, more than likely, reply to any comments.

Thank you for taking the time to visit my little photography blog amongst the millions available on the Internet.

UPDATE (February 19, 2010): I just came across a statement today which rang true to me.  While the first paragraph is still correct.  I want to add  that I have a passion for photography and a need to communicate to others through photography.  I believe these two statements in red is what fuels my enjoyment of photography and sharing it with all of you.

Sincerely,

Scott Thomas

    Scott,

I’ve always enjoyed your PS Calculator newsletters. I didn’t realize you were in CNY. I’ve posted the link for the Syracuse Photo meetup group if you’re interested and have the time to join us on some of our photo shoots.

Hi Scott. Finally found my way round your blog! Wanted to leave a comment a while ago to say thank you for the feedback about my Ray and Popx photo. This blog is so useful. Great stuff! We have the same blog design too. I can see a bit of a difference in content though! 🙂

    Hi Scott,
I have a link that would be a good share for you on your links section. Its a community group, called New School of Photography. Very smart group, fully based on photography and learning more from each other. I have enjoyed it for quite some time. Here’s the links:

    Hi Scott!

I was checking out one of my favorite sites: Alaska Photography and saw your comment, did a quick double-click to yours. What a sweet surprise!!!!! I grew up in Oswego and my playground was the Adirondack’s, Lake George, Alex Bay, etc. I really enjoyed perusing your photo’s. (makes me homesick) I’ll be back to visit your site!
just wanted to say Thanks for the smile today!

Hi Scott – linked over to your blog via “The Lazy Photographer”….great stuff! I see we have much in common…a respect for Moose Peterson and Joe McNally’s work (I’ve had the pleasure of meeting both these gents!), a keen eye for nature phtography and a love of Walt Disney World! Small world! I’ll be stopping by often!

    Take care,

Hey, Scott…I’m new to your site and I just have to tell you that I like what you said up there…that you have a “NEED to communicate with people through photography”. Hmmmm…I have never heard it put that way but I feel the same way and you said it perfectly. I truly thought ALL people were this way for the longest time…until I realized they weren’t. I have had a camera in my hand since I first begged my Mom for one in the 6th grade – but I still cannot communicate exactly how I want with it – even now at 40!! I take hundreds of shots – and delete dozens – and always look for the perfect way to “say” what I want through photography.

Great site! I’m glad I stumbled across you from “Ivory Hut”!! I’ll be back!

    • Hi, Christy!

When I read that statement, it was like opening a door. I so enjoy photography but I also enjoyed sharing my photography and seeing others work. I didn’t realize it was something inside of me which was driving it.

You are not alone in your quest to find the perfect way. That is another driving force most photographers I know have. Don’t worry about having to delete those that don’t meet your criteria. It is part of the journey and the journey is the best part.
