Syracuse Crunch Ondrej Palat (12) hits Grand Rapids Griffins Brian Lashoff (32) in American Hockey League (AHL) Calder Cup Finals Playoff action at the Onondaga County War Memorial on Sunday, June 9, 2013.

The intensity of playoff hockey has players skating faster and hitting harder. Syracuse Crunch Ondrej Palat (12) is not the biggest player on the ice. Still, he took on Grand Grand Rapids Brian Lashoff (32) during the Calder Cup Final game last night. Even though Lashoff had over 35 pounds in weight and 3 inches in height over Palat, Ondrej was able to separate the puck from him with this hit. It lead to a scoring chance for the Crunch a few seconds later.
This was one of the few highlights over the weekend as the Crunch lost both games and are now down to the Griffins, 2 game to 0, in the Best-of-7 series with the next three games in Grand Rapids. I will be routing them on as they will need to win 2 of those games to bring the series back to Syracuse for game 6 next week. Go get ’em, Crunch!

They were fine. The boards and glass give a little and they are heavily padded under their uniforms. Though I am sure they were sore after the game.

Great quality photos, the d7100 gets great reviews except in one area the raw buffer . In the pictures you have posted were they shot in raw or jpeg ? I just purchased the d7100 and also shoot ice hockey for my daughters team. I’m never in such a good lighted arena but have had very good success with my D7000 … 80-200 2.8 . I’m very happy I discovered your hockey pictures with the d7100 . Scott Kelby did a hockey video review, but didn’t mention if he tested the camera in raw or Jpeg. Thanks Ken from Toronto Canada .

Finally getting to this. Been busy the last couple of weeks. I shoot hockey in JPEG as the Crunch take my photos directly from me so I get them to look the best in camera. I still add a little more vibrancy and a bit of sharpening in post.
The D7100 does a good job though it’s frame rate is 6fps and 7fps in crop mode. Though it still seems far slower than my D700 with battery grip at 8fps. I just think the D700 shutter is loader and I notice it more. 🙂 The noise control on the D7100 is no where near what the FX sensors are. For Internet use, it’s fine but I will be doing some noise reduction an any photos selected for print over 800 ISO.
I also photograph many high school ice hockey games in less than ideal light. I only use the D700 in those cases as the ISOs range in the 2500 to 5000 (and sometimes higher) range.
Still hoping for the D400!!
