March traditionally has been the assignment which challenges me and incidentally I learn the most from all of you. For this year, I selected for Assignment 24, Black & White Photography.
I am looking for either new or archived photographs which you either took in or converted to a Black & White. I, as a self-proclaimed color photographer, am looking for why you choose to photograph or present your photos in B&W.
As in the other assignments, do not send me your photos. What I would like you to do is post them on your blog, flickr, Google+ or other photo sharing site, personal website or any place on the Internet where you can place a link to it here by making a comment to this blog entry. Then, we can all visit those sites and enjoy everyone’s Black & White photos.
Please, have your photos posted on or before Midnight (your time zone), Wednesday, March 20, 2013. Might be a good time to start up a blog or join a photo community like flickr. As I have done for all the Assignments, I will put together a recap with my comments.
If you have any questions, leave me a comment and I will be happy to answer them. I would triply appreciate it if you would help spread the word about this assignment so we can get lots of people to participate. Blog it, Tweet it, FaceBook it, Google+ it, Pin it, Tag it, email it and talk about it to your fellow photographers, bloggers, friends, your mailman and family. Thank you!
BW? Excellent 🙂 Looking forward to this, especially since I’ve recently taken to developing my own b/w film!

Scott, you’ve chosen my personal bugaboo for this one. I don’t know if I can participate. I don’t think I’ve ever done a good job choosing photos that do well in black and white.

You and me both, Karma. Though this time of year does lend itself to monochrome-like scenes.

I really enjoy working with B&W pics; even if I don’t do them a whole heck of a lot. One reason I sometimes go that route is if the colors in the original aren’t all that great; or if something with the exposure is off. But I found that B&W images have more of an intimate feel to them. You don’t just “ooh and ahh” over the pretty colors. You’re actually focused on the subject/meaning of the picture.

Wow Scott! I just went through this collection. Impressive. Even areas of the park that are saturated with color looked great in B&W. Some very unique perspectives. Wonderful album.

Hi, Scott!
I know I’m late, but this is fun, so here’s a link anyway. Just a couple of photos — nothing too significant. Black and white
Thanks for doing this — it’s great to see all the photos!
