Back in October I showed you a couple of locations I had visited at different times of the year called Seasons. In the comments, some people voiced an interest in doing a long term 
assignment taking that idea a step further to include all four seasons: Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter.
You may do this assignment and present it in anyway you wish as long as you show four distinctive seasons from the SAME location. Four different blogs, a collage, a year ending blog presenting all four photos or some other creative way. You can use the astronomical solstices and equinoxes if you wish but that is not required. I suggest you select a location which you know well and is easy to get to. A nearby park, favorite window view, historic structure or your backyard.
I am announcing this now in case some of you want to start with this year’s Winter solstice on December 22nd. On December 28, 2011, I will recap the assignment with links you post below.

I like to review the year, compare one year to another, see how things change. I find that I go back to some spots over and over–and that I go back to different spots at different times of the year. I have favorite orchards, beaches, stands of maples, snowfields. I think my challenge will be to find a single spot that has a story to tell throughout the year. We’ll see how I do . . .

I have to ask, Carsten. You and Brigette both use the word “motive”. Not sure I understand what that means. I am thinking it might be something lost in translation into English.

Interesting question Scott! It was hard to find an explanation, but finally I found this in “The Great Danish Encyclopedia”:
“Within the visual arts the motive as form, is the visible phenomenon, such as landscape, installation or person, the artist has in mind, while he implements an artistic process. The content may be subject to a religious, mythological, literary, allegorical, social work or other subject that is the target of the presentation.”
Does this give any meaning to you? And which word would you use instead of “motive”?

“Subject” is better – as Birgitte proposed a long time ago. Still I think that any artist need to have a motive 🙂

I´m in, of course. This will be fun, I can´t remember I have joined any assignment with that time horizon.
BTW, thanks for mentioning the mistake about the word motive. I thought I used the right word, and didn´t look it up before. Now that I have, I can see that the right word is “subject”. In spoken Danish we use the same word “motiv” to explain both “subject” and “motive”.

Hi Birgitte, I am a bit late to participate in this discussion; I was just checking the date for Scott’s assignment (Four Seasons). In French “motif” means “subject” as well as “pattern”. For instance on a fabric you would say “motif” for pattern, design. You could also talk about your “motif”-reason, for a decision. Isn’t it interesting to compare languages this way ?

As I told you above a year ago – this subject was just perfect for me! I love returning to many of my favorite spots around here in Jutland – and especially close to Mårslet – within walking or biking distance. And the subject this time is from my neighborhood. Scott–I echo Giiid’s comment. I had trouble with the “remembering” part too! Hope this isn’t too late! (I really had intended to start a new blog this year, and incorporate this assignment there. But…good intentions…so, it ended up on my blog about raising puppies for Leader Dogs for the Blind, and still ended up being about my puppy!)
