The weather has been hazy, hot and humid the last few days. This creates some interesting atmospheric conditions which made for a very orange-red sunset last night. Down near Lock 24, this gentleman was fishing in the relative cool of the evening after a 95 degree F (35 C) day with the heat index going over 100.

I tried to show the concept of the three H’s in this photo. I wanted to avoid the starburst effect by using a larger aperture of f/11 as the round Sun looked hotter. So, too, the reflection in the water and the haze in the background adds to the feeling of heat. Even the fisherman’s hat was discarded. 🙂

I love the way you’ve captured the color of the evening here. Many times I’ve gone outside in this beautiful light, but lament that I can’t seem to make my camera see what I see.

The answer is…cameras can not see what our eyes see. Our eyes, coupled with our brains, is one amazing graphics computer. If someone could duplicate the range of our eyes in a camera sensor, there would be no reason for doing things like HDR or layers in post processing. We can only hope to get close enough or artistic enough for people to like what we do.
In the photo here, the sky and Sun was a lot redder. I compromised on this version after trying various ways to make it look like what I saw.

As I am an old bat, I rely upon the little camera to see what I cannot–often with surprising results! However, I can clearly see the heat. The times are out of joint when temperatures reach triple digits in the northeast. I believe I’ll go sit in the Bay now.

The viewer immediately catches the scene. In the next moment the composition, light and colors pleases the eyes.
Here the temperatures are fine for a Danish summer 23 – 28 C.

Beside what is already mentioned, I too like the depth in this photo. It looks like a beautiful and peaceful place to go fishing. Or sailing. Is that possible?

The river is tricky for sailing. They can do it but usually I see sailboats motoring the river to get to the next lake. It was a quiet evening. Across from here is the amphitheater which hosts lots of music concerts during the summer and can get quite loud. 🙂 I’ve shown photos here before of such events.

Irrespective if it dark winter or sunny summer, I love going out in the evening with my camera.
The sun’s reflection and the fisherman is perfectly lined-up.
I get the feeling of relaxed concentration, the man waiting for a bite while you compose the shot, excellent.
