The following set of photos featuring the star effect on the Sun as I posted on Monday were all taken within a couple of minutes of each other. I was trying to catch various wave patterns. The lens was the Tokina 11-16mm Ultra Wide Angle and the exposure was the same for all four: 1/8th of a second shutter speed, f/16 aperture, ISO 400, EV +1.0. The first three at 16mm, the last at 11mm focal lengths.
Being that these photos were taken under the same lighting and exposures, I had fun trying out a few of Aperture 3’s new presets which come with the photo management software. You’ll see which ones I used in each photo’s caption. I must say I was impressed with them and look forward to trying out more presets which are becoming available for free and for purchase across the Internet.

Hope I have not bored you with all the sunsets and waves this week! It’s been cool, cloudy and windy the last few days here in upstate New York. These photos help to keep the sunshine around as does this song.
Views Infinitum 
Never bored with waves and sunsets! My favorites here are #1 for the drama of the colors, and #4 for the interest that is added by the amazingly focused pebbles on the beach, some of them even reflecting the sunset – absolutely gorgeous.
Thanks also for the tweet directed to PDub’s post – I just discovered today that I, too, with my DSLR-wanna-be camera, have that exposure button!

I love photography software and I’m always checking out what is what. Aperture 3 is for Mac, and too bad. I’d love to have this software to play with.
All of these are great. I really, really like Cross Process 1 and Toy Camera because of the deepness of tones… beautiful!

I have come over from Pioneer Woman’s site. You do some amazing work! I read that you use a Nikon d70. I have a d70s that I bought back in 2006. I have been itching to get a newer camera, maybe the d5000 or d90, mainly b/c of the low light issues that the d70s has. I take a lot of indoor pics of my kids at school and hate the noise that I get. I borrowed a friends d5000 and compared shots with mine. Of course her indoor shots beat mine but I still think I like my outdoor shots better. I am confused. Have you considered upgrading to a generation 2 camera? Cameras are really expensive and they are coming out with newer and better ones all the time. The one thing I don’t like about the newer ones is the video. They definitely have a long way to go with perfecting it but you are paying for it when you buy it. I would love your thoughts. Is a d90 that much better as far as picture quality than my d70s?

These are gorgeous! My favorite is the toy camera preset, love how the colors came out.
I really like the cross process2, because it makes the sunset look like a sunrise.

All the shots are great and I love the effect, however I truly like the first photo best of all. The colors fit best in this one I think.

I love how you all had your favorites. The photos are not the best with flare and movement. Using presets is a great way to get different looks fast in Aperture/Lightroom. Also, gives you ideas on how to process other photos from scratch.
