Assignment 6: Your Hometown

The very first assignment I posted last year was for everyone to do a Collective Shoot.  Ready to do another one?  This time the subject is Your Hometown.  This is different than landmarks as I am looking for one, two or more photos telling us about the place you call Your Hometown.  If you live in the country, show and tell us about the closest town.

Looking for new photographs.  Be creative and have fun!  March is a transition month for most of us. What better way to get out and enjoy it then with a fun photo project.

The Seneca River Bridge in my hometown of Baldwinsville, New York, has been a part of my entire life and a part of Baldwinsville's history.

As in the other assignments, do not send me your photos. What I would like you to do is post them on your blog, flickr or other photo sharing site, personal website or any other place on the Internet where you can place a link to it here by making a comment to this blog entry. Then we can visit those sites and learn about Your Hometown.

Please, have your photos posted on or before Midnight (your time), Wednesday, March 24, 2010. Don’t have a place to post? Might be a good time to start up a blog or join a photo community like flickr. As I have done for all the Assignments, I’ll put together a recap with my comments.

If you have any questions, leave me a comment and I will be happy to answer them. By the way, I would really appreciate it if you would help spread the word about this so we can get lots of people to participate. Thank you!

Oooooh, this is a challenging one Scott! My mind is already trying to think of what to do. Just HOW does one sum up a whole town in a photo?? Hmmmm, intriguing indeed.

  2. I’m afraid I will have to miss this assignment, Scott. No way I would be able to make it to my hometown (even my “adopted” hometown here in the US).

    • I see…change the definition to the town where your home currently resides. 🙂 I know many people have moved away from what their hearts tell them is their “hometown”. I am sure you and others can find something or somethings to tell about their current one if you/they wish.

Wonderful subject and challenge. I’m glad it is hometown because we are stuck at our hometown for awhile as our main truck is in the repair shop. So, while on foot and maybe at different times of day, I’ll see what I may find that will tell a story of my small, rural hometown out in the middle of Kansas (my adopted hometown of 18 years). And I keep thinking of that song…’Small Town’…by John Cougar Mellencamp.

Love your Seneca River Bridge photo!

Here is a link to my “My Hometown” photo album on Picasa Web Albums: http://picasaweb.google.com/karmardav/MyHometown?feat=directlink

I consider myself a “townie” – I grew up here, moved away for 5 years when my parents moved out of town after I graduated from high school, and moved back to the town I love when I got married. I love raising my kids here. I hope any visitors to my photos will get a sense of my love for my hometown. Thanks again, Scott, for the photo sharing opportunity – it was nice to spend last Sunday afternoon getting these shots!

But what is my hometown? I spent my first eleven years in Detroit, but it no longer resembles the place of my youth. There were 5 years in a Detroit suburb, but I don’t think of it as a hometown. Then there were many different places, but I have spent at least part of each of the last 50 years in Ann Arbor. So I’ll call it my hometown. Here’s the place in Ann Arbor where they tried to teach me to be a lawyer. The tangle of limbs resembles my tangled view of the law. http://brucelaidlaw.com/hometown/Hometown-1.jpg

You can probably see my home town on Googles Streetview. But it would give meaning only to few people. Instead I have chosen to present My Homes Town: http://c-langkjaer.dk/wordpress/2010/03/min-hjemby-my-home-town/

Don’t know about the photographs themselves, but I sure had great fun doing this. You are awesome to post these assignments and to get us thinking about photographing different things than we might consider. 🙂

Double ear infections, stomach bugs, and rain tried to keep me away from this challenge, but here I am nonetheless, squeaking in as usual! 🙂 Can’t wait to go look at the rest! Have avoided the temptation so far. (I try not to look until I post my own.) Thanks again Scott, this time for a walk down Memory Lane.

Hello Scott! Heard of your assignment from Giid/My2008blog. I am a real beginner in the blog-world, just started in the beginning of 2010, and I’m learning a lot all the time. Right now about pixels and rezizing my (too large) pictures on my blog…..
But today I tried something, a challenge for me….
