The Villa food stand at the New York State Fair is the home of the Pizze Fritte.
Since 1960, The Villa has been selling Pizze Frittes at the New York State Fair. In fact, Pizze Frittes are the ONLY thing they sell. Every night you can see people lined up 20, 30 or more deep to get some Pizze Frittes. So, what is a Pizze Fritte? Well, it’s fried dough…sort of. It’s a sugary snack…again, sort of. Oh, Scott, just looking at the photos probably increased my cholesterol 10 points. That looks like the same stuff we make Elephant Ears out of. Do you have those, too? This year our Petoskey Stone Festival had deep-fried pickles and deep-fried oreos. I do not have photos. I was afraid to go to the Festival. I am beginning to fear that my county has a collective death wish.

Yeah, PIzze Frittes are not the healthest of snacks but it’s only once a year I tell myself. At the Fair, they deep fry ANYTHING. The big new deep fried craze this year was peanut butter and jelly. Think of a jelly donut with peanut butter deep fried. People loved them as the vendor sold thousands.

Oh Yum! I haven’t ever had Pizze Frittes; however, I surely would love to have some. I have had fried dough as in funnel cake and Indian fry bread (I’ve made this). 2-ft! Your nephew definitely looks like he is enjoying a 2-foot Pizze Fritte. 🙂

Pizze Frittes are way better than any flat fried dough stuff. Not sure about the Indian fry bread. Maybe you can post the recipe for everyone. 🙂
