The name Taughannock comes from the Algonquian-speaking Lenni Lenape (Delaware) Indians, referring either to chief Taughannock or the word taghkanic (great fall in the woods) [Source Wikipedia]. I like the latter definition of Taughannock as you walk on a trail in the woods along a meandering creek to the great falls at Taughannock Falls State Park near Ithaca, New York. Which is what I did a couple of weeks ago with a few photographer friends.

The weather was perfect for a winter stroll on the trail. Right, Andy? Light snow had fallen on the trees and freshened up the forest floor.

Barbara needed a model and asked Debbie to walk ahead with her bright blue coat adding a colorful contrast to the winter landscape.

At the end of the trail, we came upon Taughannock Falls, the Great Fall in the Woods.

The Great Fall was made even greater with the fellowship of people who joined me on what I would consider the perfect winter’s day.

I applaud you for going out in the snow for these captures. I live in the south and am not use to snow. I don’t know I could last.

You would be fine as you would dress for the cold and snow as we did. The tough part is keeping your fingers warm while working the camera.
