Did a quick trip down to Walt Disney World over the Labor Day weekend. Took the Nikon D700 digital SLR camera and the new Nikon 28-300VR FX lens which I received just before the I left. Let me say my preliminary opinion of the 28-300VR lens after taking about 1,000 images is AWESOME!

Epcot's Innovention Fountain with Spaceship Earth in the background at dusk in Walt Disney World, Orlando, Florida. Nikon D700/28-300VR, 1/30s, f/5.6, ISO 800, EV -0.3, 145mm focal length.
Due to this trip, my recap of the latest assignment on Travel Photography is delayed until Friday.

Wow!
This is a well composed image. I like the reflections on domes triangles. Blue from the sky and puple – orange from the fountain lights.
Well done Scott. Congratulations with your new lens.
Thanks, Carsten. Disney has a way with lights and illuminating the parks but catching it at this time of day adds to the effects.
Beautiful, balanced, interesting. A story told in one shot. Cool!
That is what I strive for in my photography, Dawn. So happy you see it, too.
Beautiful shot!
Thank you, Michaela!
Very nice example of what that combination can do!
Terry, this pair is going to be a favorite of mine. It has immediately pared down my travel kit and eliminated the need for me to get a camera backpack.
Great images aren’t taken, they are made and forced through that hole in the box – excuse me, I mean the lens of your camera.
Don’t let anyone tell you that it was an accident, or it was due to your equipment.
You created this image by harnessing your inner artistry. Awesome work!
And remember, it ain’t the violin, it’s the violinist.
Ah, but when the old tool starts to hold back the creator, new tools can once again unleash it. I don’t dispute what you say but sometimes new gear is a boost.
28 ~ 300 might be my next lens – the results look impressive.
YB, it is designed for FX camera bodies but DX cameras will be able to use it. With the 1.5x crop, it will be a 42-450mm zoom or normal to super-zoom.
Gorgeous! Must say the jealousy about new lenses people are acquiring is starting to build, LOL.
Well, this lens was a bonus. Nikon did not announce it until a month ago. After using the D700, I really missed this range and immediately ordered it as soon as I could.
Awesome shot, the lens looks very impressive
For more photos from this lens, check out my flickr photos on the left hand column. I have been very impressed, too.
It’s gorgeous, love the fountain and lighting effects on Epcot. I would love to have a zoom lens that is that powerful, I know to go to 300 if I were to purchase one.
Canon has the 18-200 IS lens which would fit the bill for you, Nye. Remember your camera has a crop factor of 1.6x if I am remembering it correctly.
There is also a 55-250 IS, which I purchased with my Canon.
Thanks Scott and Karma, I do need to invest in a good zoom lens and hope to get one before Christmas.
im insanely JEALOUS you got the new 28-300 lens!! i’ve preordered it, so as soon as it lands in australia i’ll have it within 5 days
i’m excited!
is it fabulous?
It is fabulous, Chloe. I have more examples of this lens on my flickr account.
Gorgeous shot…the lighting is what makes this capture so special.
So sorry I have missed your deadline Scott.
I am just completely overwhelmed with family stuff…coming back from a two week vacation two days before the start of a new school year was apparently not good planning on my part. Oops!
Ah, well…live and learn I suppose.
That’s okay, KD. But, I still expect something on your blog about your Disney trip.
Cool shot, Scott!!
But the real question is…..how was the pizza???
Interesting shot as well as colorful. I really like the many colored fountain.
A dream of a picture ! I love those highlighted pieces of a huge round mosaic.A great composition between vertical and circular lines. Wonderful and magic image.
